Composition
- Each tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
- Each DX tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
- Each effervescent tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP
Pharmacology

- Aids in Calcium absorption from the GI tract

Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
- Taking with a full stomach ensures better absorption
Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- May interfere with the absorption of tetracycline preparations
- May increase the toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
- Should be administered at least three hours before intake of bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride
- Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
Side Effects
- Irritating to the GI tract
- May cause constipation
- Rarely produces hypercalcemia
- May cause allergic reactions
- May lead to irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth, drowsiness
- Skin rash following administration of Vitamin D Supplements
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Overdoses should be avoided during pregnancy as permanent hypercalcemia may have adverse effects on the developing foetus
- No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
- Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Serum calcium levels and renal function should be monitored during long-term treatment
- Especially important in elderly patients and those with a high tendency to calculus formation
- Caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Risk of soft tissue calcification should be taken into account
- Treatment should be discontinued in case of hypercalcemia or impaired renal function
- Should be used with caution in immobilised patients with osteoporosis
- Dose should be considered when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
Overdose Effects
- Can lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcemia
- Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias, coma, and death
- Persistently high calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
- Treatment includes discontinuation of calcium and other relevant medications, stomach emptying, rehydration, monitoring of serum electrolytes and renal function
