Indications
- Treatment of vulvovaginal candidiasis
- Treatment of trichomoniasis
- Treatment of mixed vaginal infections caused by Candida Albicans and Trichomonas vaginalis
Pharmacology
- Broad-spectrum antimycotic agent
- Activity against dermatophytes and yeasts
- Exhibits antibacterial action
- Antiparasitic action against Trichomonas vaginalis
- Ideal topical alternative to multi-agent treatment of mixed infections
Dosage
- Fenticonazole vaginal cream: Route of application is intravaginal for adults
- Fenticonazole vaginal cream: Administer one applicator full (about 5 gm) in the morning and evening for three days
- Fenticonazole vaginal tablet: Administration for Trichomonas or mixed vaginal infections
- Fenticonazole vaginal tablet: Administration for Candida albicans infections
Administration
- Screwing the applicator onto the tube for cream application
- Squeezing the tube gently to fill the applicator
- Inserting the applicator into the vagina as deeply as possible and pushing the piston to penetrate cream completely
- Placing a vaginal tablet into the applicator for tablet application
- Inserting applicator containing the tablet carefully as deeply as possible into the vagina
Interaction
- Not investigated for interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Fenticonazole or any component of the formulation
Side Effects
- Slight transient burning after intravaginal administration
- Prolonged topical application may cause sensitisation reactions
- Mild and transient erythematous reactions reported
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Should not be used during pregnancy or lactation without physician's advice
Precautions & Warnings
- Not to be used in conjunction with barrier contraceptives
- Discontinue treatment in case of hypersensitivity reaction or development of resistant organisms
Use in Special Populations
- Not recommended for use in children
Overdose Effects
- Unlikely due to low systemic absorption after vaginal application
