Pharmacology
- Combination of two antacids and an alginate
- Neutralizes excess stomach acid
- Forms a protective barrier over the stomach contents
- Physical mode of action
- No absorption into systemic circulation
- Forms Alginic Acid gel with near neutral pH
- Interacts with and caps the acid pocket in the stomach
- Reduces esophageal acid exposure
- Protects esophagus from Acid, Pepsin, and Bile
- Neutralizes gastric acid
Dosage & Administration
- Oral suspension for adults and children over 12 years
- Chewable tablets for adults and children 12 years and over
- Different doses for different age groups
- No recommended dose for children under 6 years
- No dose modifications for elderly
- Thoroughly chew the tablets
- Hepatic impairment: No dose modification necessary
- Caution for renal insufficiency with highly restricted salt diet
Interaction
- Consider 2-hour time interval between Rafcon intake and other medicinal products
- Interaction with Tetracyclines, Digoxine, Fluoroquinolone, Iron salt, Ketoconazole, Neuroleptics, Thyroid Hormones, Penicillamine, beta-blockers, Glucocorticoid, Chloroquine, Biphosphonates, and Estramustine
Contraindications
- Known or suspected hypersensitivity to active ingredients or excipients

- No malformative nor feto/neonatal toxicity
- Can be used during pregnancy if clinically needed

Precautions & Warnings
- Sodium content of 254.5 mg per 20 ml dose
- Calcium content of 260 mg per 20 ml dose
- High sodium content
- Not recommended for children under 12 years without medical advice
- Care needed in treating patients with hypercalcaemia and nephrocalcinosis
- Not for patients with phenylketonuria
- Seek medical advice if symptoms persist or treatment required for more than 7 days
- Can mask symptoms of other serious underlying medical conditions
- Not for patients with impaired renal function/insufficiency and hypophosphatemia
- May cause allergic reactions
