Indications
- Treatment of partial-onset seizures

Description
- Mechanism of antiepileptic effect unknown
- Minimal activity in submaximal stimulation and threshold tests
- Protection against secondarily generalized activity
- Inhibition of burst firing
- Prevention of hyper synchronization
Dosage
- Starting dose of 250mg twice daily for adults and adolescents
- Dosage increase to 500mg twice daily after two weeks
- Maximum dose of 1500mg twice daily
- Different dosages for pediatric population
- Preferable oral solution for infants and children
Administration
- Oral administration
- Swallow with sufficient quantity of liquid
- Can be taken with or without food
- Daily dose administered in two equally divided doses
Interaction
- No influence on serum concentrations of existing antiepileptic drugs
- Potential interaction with probenecid, methotrexate, and laxatives
- Limited data on interaction with food and alcohol
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to active substance or excipients
