Description

  • Cefadyl is an orally active cephalosporin antibiotic with marked bactericidal activity against a wide variety of Gram-positive and Gram-negative organisms. It is used to treat upper respiratory tract infections, lower respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, and infections caused by commonly occurring pathogens.

DosageAndAdministration

  • Usual course of treatment is 7-14 days
  • Recommended adult dosage: 200-400 mg daily
  • Dosage for children is based on age and weight
  • Dosage adjustments for renal impairment

Pharmacology

  • Third generation semisynthetic cephalosporin antibiotic
  • Bactericidal against a broad spectrum of bacteria
  • Interferes in the synthesis of bacterial cell wall
  • Highly stable in the presence of Beta-lactamase enzyme
  • 40-50% absorption with or without food

Interaction

  • Increases in prothrombin times have been noted in a few patients
  • Care should be taken in patients receiving anticoagulant therapy

  • Hypersensitivity to cephalosporin antibiotics
