Description
- Indicated for constipation of any etiology
- Provides relief from prolonged and recurrent constipation
- Used for bowel clearance before surgery, childbirth, or radiological investigations
- Acts as a stimulant laxative by promoting colonic peristalsis and accumulation of water and electrolytes in the colonic lumen
- Comes in tablet and oral solution form
- Interacts with diuretics, adreno-corticosteroids, and antibiotics
- Contraindicated in cases of ileus, intestinal obstruction, severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions, acute inflammatory bowel diseases, severe dehydration, and known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate
- May cause side effects such as hypersensitivity, dizziness, syncope, gastrointestinal disorders, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and nausea
- Safe for use during pregnancy and lactation with caution in the first trimester
- Prolonged excessive use may lead to fluid and electrolyte imbalance, hypokalemia, and harm for those suffering from alcoholism
