Indications
- Smooth muscle anti-spasmodic action in abdominal and genitourinary tracts
- Recommended for symptoms related to gastrointestinal and genitourinary tract spasms
- Used for spasmodic dysmenorrhea
- Prescribed for intense gastrointestinal and biliary pain
- Utilized for diagnosis and relief of gastrointestinal tract spasms
Dosage & Administration
- Adult dose: 20mg four times daily for gastrointestinal symptoms, with specific timing for spasmodic dysmenorrhea
- Child dose (6-12 years): 10mg thrice daily or as directed by the physician
- Injection administration: Typical adult dose for muscle or urinary tract is 20mg, may repeat after 30 minutes if necessary, increased frequency for endoscopy
Contraindications
- Prostatic hypertrophy patients should avoid use, caution advised for elderly
- Contraindicated in paralytic ileus or pyloric stenosis patients
- Patients with glaucoma prone to mydriatic damage should not use
Side Effects
- Potential side effects include dry mouth, pupil dilation, increased intraocular pressure, flushing, dry skin, bradycardia, tachycardia, and arrhythmia
- Possible fatigue, vomiting, dizziness, and staggering
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Similar caution required in first trimester as with other medications
Precautions & Warnings
- May cause drowsiness or agitation, impacting mental alertness and driving safety
- Patients taking this medication should refrain from alcohol consumption
- Caution required for thyrotoxicosis, cardiac insufficiency, or failure, as well as in combination with other anticholinergic drugs or antidepressants
