Indications
- Reduction of elevated total cholesterol

Pharmacology
- Lowers plasma cholesterol levels by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase
- Reduces blood cholesterol by inhibiting absorption in the small intestine
- Increases hepatic LDL receptors to enhance uptake and catabolism of LDL
- Reduces LDL production and number of LDL particles
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage range of 10/10 mg to 80/20 mg daily
- Recommended starting dose of 10/10 mg or 20/10 mg daily
- Administration as a single dose with or without food
- Dosage adjustment based on lipid levels analysis
- Higher dose for patients requiring larger reduction in LDL-C
- Adjusted dosage for patients with homozygous familial hypercholesterolemia
- Contraindicated in patients with active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in hepatic transaminase levels
- No dosage adjustment needed in patients with renal impairment
Interaction
- Increased risk of myopathy with concurrent administration of certain drugs
- Coadministration considerations for various medications and health conditions
