Indications and Uses
- Treatment of corneal ulcers
- Treatment of conjunctivitis
- Treatment of blepharitis
Composition
- Ciprofloxacin Hydrochloride BP equivalent to Ciprofloxacin 3 mg per ml
- Benzalkonium Chloride 0.06 mg per ml
Mode of Action
- Bactericidal action
- Inhibition of DNA gyrase (topoisomerase)
Dosage and Administration
- Instill 2 drops every 15 minutes for 6 hours for corneal ulcers
- Instill 2 drops every 30 minutes for the remainder of the first day for corneal ulcers
- Instill 2 drops hourly on the second day for corneal ulcers
- Instill 2 drops every 4 hours from the third to fourteenth day for corneal ulcers
- Instill 1 drop every 2 hours for 2 days for bacterial conjunctivitis/blepharitis
- Instill 1 drop every 4 hours for the next 5 days for bacterial conjunctivitis/blepharitis
Pediatric Use
Safety and effectiveness not established for children under 1 year of age
Interaction
- Potential elevation of plasma concentrations of theophylline
- Potential interference with caffeine metabolism
- Potential enhancement of oral anticoagulant effects
- Transient elevations in serum creatinine with concomitant cyclosporin use
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to Ciprofloxacin
- Hypersensitivity to quinolones

- Local burning or discomfort
- White crystalline precipitates in approximately 17% of patients
- Lid margin crusting
- Foreign body sensation
- Itching
- Conjunctival hyperemia
- Bad taste following instillation
- Corneal staining
- Allergic reactions
- Lid edema
- Tearing
- Photophobia
- Corneal infiltrates
- Nausea
- Decreased vision
Pregnancy and Lactation
Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the fetus
Precautions and Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms
- Discontinue use if super-infection occurs
- Discontinue at the first appearance of a skin rash or hypersensitivity reaction
Overdose Effects
Flush from the eye with warm tap water
