Indications
- Neuropathic pain associated with diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN)
- Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN)
- Adjunctive therapy for the treatment of partial-onset seizures in patients 1 month of age and older
- Fibromyalgia
- Neuropathic pain associated with spinal cord injury
Pharmacology
Pregabalin is a structural derivative of the inhibitory neurotransmitter gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA).
Dosage
- Adult DPN: Dose may be increased to 300 mg/day within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability.
- Adult PHN: Dose may be increased to 300 mg/day within 1 week based on efficacy and tolerability.
- Fibromyalgia: Dose may be increased to 225 mg two times a day (450 mg/day).
- Spinal Cord Injury: Dose may be increased to 300 mg two times a day.
Administration
- Route: Oral
- Pregabalin CR Tablet: Administered after an evening meal. Should be swallowed whole and should not be split, crushed or chewed.
Drug Interaction
Gabaglen is unlikely to be involved in significant pharmacokinetic drug interactions.
Contraindications
Pregabalin is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Pregabalin or any of its components.

- Weight gain
- Difficulty with concentration/attention
Pregnancy & Lactation
Pregabalin should be used in pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus. Breastfeeding is not recommended during treatment with pregabalin.
Precautions & Warnings
- Discontinue immediately if hypersensitivity reactions occur
- Increased risk of suicidal thoughts or behavior
- May cause dizziness and somnolence
- Withdraw gradually over a minimum of 1 week
Use in Special Populations
Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients for various conditions.
Overdose Effects
Signs and symptoms include reduced consciousness, depression/anxiety, confusional state, agitation, restlessness, seizures and heart block.
