Description
- Indicated as an adjunct to specific therapies and dietary measures in pathologic conditions characterized by a negative nitrogen balance
- Palliative treatment of selected cases of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women
- Treatment of osteoporosis
- Injectable anabolic preparation
- Pharmacologically active substance is nandrolone
- Phenylpropionate ester gives the preparation a duration of action of about one week after injection
- Enhanced anabolic and reduced androgenic activity compared to testosterone
- Has a nitrogen saving action on protein metabolism
- Produces objective regressions for many months in selected cases of disseminated mammary carcinoma in women
- Produces relief of bone pain in patients with osteoporosis
- Recommended dosage for specific conditions: 25-50 mg every week
- May improve glucose tolerance and decrease the need for insulin or other antidiabetic medicines in diabetics
- Contraindicated in pregnancy and known or suspected carcinoma of the prostate or breast in males
- Possible side effects: virilization, hoarseness, acne, hirsutism, increase of libido, amenorrhea, inhibition of spermatogenesis, premature epiphyseal closure, fluid retention
- Contraindicated during pregnancy due to possible masculinization of the fetus
- Insufficient data on use during breastfeeding
- If signs of virilization develop, discontinuation of the treatment should be considered
- Preferably in consultation with the patient, Monitor patients with latent or overt cardiac failure, renal dysfunction, hypertension, or a history of these conditions
- Monitor patients with incomplete statural growth and skeletal metastases of breast carcinoma
- The acute toxicity of Hybolin in animals is very low
