Indications

• Treatment of osteoarthritis of knee, hip, spine, hand, and other locations
• Beneficial in rheumatoid arthritis, sport injuries, migraine, psoriasis, atherosclerosis, kidney stones, and inflammatory bowel disease

Pharmacology

• Glucosamine is a natural amino-sugar
• Building block for biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs)
• Found in certain foods and produced by the body
• Forms proteoglycans, the essential building block of articular cartilage
• Chondroitin Sulfate is a glycosaminoglycan found in connective tissue

Dosage & Administration

• 250/200 mg tablet: 1 to 2 tablets, three times daily
• Dose may be adjusted according to the response of the drug and body weight
• Typical dosage recommendation based on body weight

Interaction

• No significant drug interactions reported with various medications

Contraindications

• No known contraindications
• Proven hypersensitivity to shellfish or sulfur

Side Effects

• No demonstrable side effects reported
• Rarely occurring side effects are almost like placebo

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not supplement with Glucosamine Sulfate or Chondroitin Sulfate
• No studies evaluating use during pregnancy or lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Patients with Diabetes Mellitus advised to monitor blood glucose levels regularly
• No special studies in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
• Administration to patients with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency should be under appropriate medical supervision
• Children should not be supplemented with Glucosamine and Chondroitin
