Pharmacology

Broad spectrum anthelmintic
Blocking glucose uptake
Depleting energy level
Immobilization of parasites
Metabolism in the liver

Dosage & Administration

400 mg single dose for certain infections in adults and children over 2 years
Treatment of strongyloidiasis or taeniasis for 3 consecutive days
200 mg single dose for children of 1-2 years
Not recommended for children under 1 year
400 mg twice daily for 28 days for hydatid disease in patients over 60 kg
15 mg/kg body weight daily for hydatid disease in patients under 60 kg
400 mg once daily for 5 days in giardiasis

Contraindications

Not normally used in neonates
Reduced dose for children weighing less than 10 kg
Not recommended during pregnancy or lactation
No evidence to alter dosage in renal, hepatic or cardiac failure
