Indications

  • Seasonal & Perennial Allergic Rhinitis
  • Urticaria

Pharmacology

  • Long-acting non-sedative antagonist of histamine H1-receptors
  • Antagonizes platelet activating factor (PAF)
  • Inhibits degranulation of mast cells
  • Inhibition of cytokine release

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended dose of 10 mg once a day for adults and adolescents
  • Different doses for children based on weight

Interaction

  • Increased exposure with ketoconazole or erythromycin
  • Caution with statins, CNS depressants, or alcohol
  • Avoid grapefruit and grapefruit juice

Contraindications

  • Hypersensitivity to Rupatadine or excipients

Side Effects

  • Common: asthenia, dizziness, drowsiness
  • Rare: palpitations, tachycardia

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • No clinical data during pregnancy
  • Caution during lactation

Precautions & Warnings

  • Caution in patients with QT interval prolongation
  • Not recommended in patients with impaired kidney or liver function

Use in Special Populations

  • Caution in elderly patients
  • Not established in patients under 12 years of age
  • Not recommended in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency

  • Most common adverse reaction is somnolence
  • Symptomatic treatment for high doses
