Anulid 400 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of nosocomial pneumonia
• Treatment of community-acquired pneumonia
• Treatment of complicated skin and skin structure infection
• Treatment of uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
• Treatment of vancomycin-resistant Enterococcus faecium infections

Pharmacology

• Oxazolidinone class of antibiotics
• Inhibits bacterial protein synthesis
• Bacteriostatic against enterococci and staphylococci
• Bactericidal for most strains of streptococci

Dosage & Administration

• Oral administration with or without food
• Intravenous infusion over 30 to 120 minutes
• Different dosages for pediatric and adult patients
• Duration of treatment varies with different infections
• No dose adjustment necessary when switching from intravenous to oral

Interaction

• Reversible, nonselective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
• Potential interaction with adrenergic and serotonergic agents
• Patients should avoid large quantities of tyramine-rich foods/beverages

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Linezolid or any product components
• Concurrent use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
• Uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, or thyrotoxicosis
• Use with sympathomimetic, vasopressive, or dopaminergic agents

Side Effects

• Mostly mild to moderate adverse events
• Common adverse events include diarrhea, headache, and nausea
• Other adverse events such as hypertension, dyspepsia, and localized abdominal pain

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Potential benefit versus risk should be considered during pregnancy
• Linezolid presence in breast milk
• Breastfed infants should be monitored for diarrhea and vomiting

Precautions & Warnings

• Weekly monitoring of complete blood counts
• Prompt ophthalmic evaluation if visual impairment symptoms occur
• Not approved for treatment of catheter-related bloodstream infections
• Clostridium difficile-associated Diarrhea (CDAD) precautions
• Monitor for potential increases in blood pressure

Overdose Effects

• No reported cases of overdose
• Symptomatic and supportive care recommended
• Approximately 30% of dose removed during 3 hours of hemodialysis

• Shake oral suspension bottle to loosen powder
• Add boiled and cooled water to dry mixture for oral suspension
• Shake well before each use of reconstituted suspension
