Indications
- Constipation of any etiology
- Relief from prolonged & recurrent constipation
- Bowel clearance before surgery, childbirth or radiological investigations
Pharmacology
- Triarylmethane group derivative stimulant laxative
- Activated by colonic bacteria
- Local action in the colon
- Stimulates nerve endings of intestinal wall
- Promotes accumulation of water and electrolytes in colonic lumen
Dosage & Administration
- Oral administration
- Dosage to be taken at night for evacuation the following morning
- Recommended starting with the lowest dose
- Maximum recommended daily dose should not be exceeded
- Different dosages for tablets and oral solutions for adults and children of different age groups
Interaction
- Increased risk of electrolyte imbalance with diuretics or adreno-corticosteroids
- Reduced laxative action with concurrent administration of antibiotics
Contraindications
- Ileus or intestinal obstruction
- Severe painful and/or feverish acute abdominal conditions potentially associated with nausea and vomiting
- Severe dehydration
- Known hypersensitivity to Sodium Picosulfate or any other component of the product
