Alcadin 0.25% (Ophthalmic Solution)

Indications

• Prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis
• H1 receptor antagonist
• Topical ophthalmic use

Pharmacology

• Contains Alcaftadine
• Histamine receptor antagonist
• Inhibitor of histamine release from mast cell
• Anti-inflammatory property
• Relief from itching
• Mast cell stabilization

Dosage & Administration

• Adults and children 2 years and over: Instill one drop in each eye once daily

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to any component in the product

Side Effects

• Eye irritation
• Burning or stinging upon instillation
• Eye redness
• Eye pruritus
• Nasopharyngitis
• Headache

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy category B
• Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
• Potential excretion in human milk
• Caution while administered to a nursing woman

Precautions & Warnings

• Minimize eye injury and contamination of the dropper tip and solution
• Avoid touching the eyelids or surrounding areas with the dropper tip
• Avoid wearing contact lenses if the eye is red
• Not to be used to treat contact lens related irritation
• Not to be instilled while wearing contact lenses
• Remove contact lenses prior to instillation
• Administer each topical ophthalmic product at least 5 minutes apart

Use in Special Populations

• Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years have not been established
• No overall differences in safety or effectiveness observed between elderly and younger subjects
