Indications
- Adjuvant treatment of postmenopausal women with estrogen-receptor-positive early breast cancer
- Treatment of advanced breast cancer in postmenopausal women
Pharmacology
- Irreversible, steroidal aromatase inactivator
- Acts as a false substrate for the aromatase enzyme
- Significantly lowers circulating estrogen concentrations in postmenopausal women
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended dose is one 25 mg tablet once daily after a meal
- Dose modification for concomitant use with strong CYP 3A4 inducers
Interaction
- Co-medications that induce CYP 3A4 may significantly decrease exposure to Aromasin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug or excipients

- Increased sweating
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Can cause fetal harm
- No information on presence in human milk or effects on the breastfed infant
- Advisable not to breastfeed during treatment and for 1 month after the final dose

- Reductions in bone mineral density over time
- Routine assessment of 25-hydroxy vitamin D levels prior to treatment
- Risk of embryo-fetal toxicity
- Advise females of reproductive potential to use effective contraception
