Indications

Pharmacology
- Broad spectrum penicillin
- Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
- Stable in gastric acid
- Rapid oral absorption
- Widely distributed in body tissues
Dosage
- Adult dosage: 250 mg three times daily
- Child dosage: 125 mg to 250 mg three times daily
- Specific dosage for respiratory infections, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhea
- Dosage adjustment for renal impairment
Administration
- Reconstituted suspension administration in milk, fruit juice, or water
Interaction
- Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase and prolong blood levels
- May affect gut flora and estrogen reabsorption, reducing efficacy of oral contraceptives
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients
Side Effects
- Mild and transient side effects including diarrhea, indigestion, rash
- Rare incidence of pseudo-membranous colitis
