Nictoris 5 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Prevention of angina pectoris
• Long-term treatment of angina pectoris

Pharmacology

• Dilates arterioles and coronary arteries
• Stimulates guanylate cyclase
• Reduces preload and afterload
• Improves coronary blood flow

Dosage & Administration

• Usual therapeutic range 10-20 mg twice daily
• Starting dose 10 mg twice daily
• Titration upwards in accordance with patient's needs
• Special dosage requirements for elderly patients
• Not recommended for children
• Dose reduction may be necessary for patients with hepatic impairment

Interaction

• Potentiation of other vasodilators
• Possible interaction with tricyclic antidepressants and antihypertensive drugs
• Potentiation of effect with alcohol

Contraindications

• Hypersensitivity to Nicorandil
• Contra-indicated in cardiogenic shock and acute myocardial infarction with acute left ventricular failure
• Hypotension
• Concurrent use with phosphodiesterase-5 inhibitors
• Caution advised for use in patients with glaucoma

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Caution during pregnancy
• Caution for nursing mothers

Precautions & Warnings

• Hypovolaemia
• Low systolic BP
• Acute pulmonary edema
• May impair ability to drive or operate machinery

Overdose Effects

• Peripheral vasodilation with fall in blood pressure
• Reflex tachycardia
• Monitoring of cardiac function and general supportive measures
• Consideration of administration of vasopressors in life-threatening situations
