Indications
- Treatment of inflammation and pain associated with ocular surgery
- Treatment of uveitis
- Treatment of pseudophakic cystoid macular edema (CME)
- Treatment of ocular surface diseases like blepharitis & corneal inflammation
Pharmacology
- Corticosteroids inhibit inflammatory response
- Inhibition of edema, fibrin deposition, capillary dilation, leukocyte migration, capillary proliferation, and scar formation
- Thought to act by induction of phospholipase A2 inhibitory proteins
- Structurally similar to other corticosteroids
Dosage & Administration
- Instill 1 drop into the conjunctival sac of the affected eye 4 times daily
- Different dosage regimens for various conditions like ocular surgery, uveitis, blepharitis, and pseudophakic cystoid macular edema
Interaction
- Specific drug interaction studies not conducted
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in active viral diseases of cornea and conjunctiva
- Contraindicated in mycobacterial infection of the eye and fungal diseases of ocular structures
Side Effects
- Elevated intraocular pressure
- Visual acuity and field defects
- Posterior subcapsular cataract formation
- Secondary ocular infection
- Perforation of the globe
- Ocular adverse reactions
- Corneal edema, ciliary and conjunctival hyperemia, eye pain, photophobia
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy Category C
- Embryotoxic and teratogenic in rabbits
- Use during pregnancy only if potential benefit justifies potential risk to the embryo or fetus
- Caution during nursing
Precautions & Warnings
- Prolonged use may result in glaucoma and cataract formation
- Caution in patients with history of herpes simplex
- Fungal infections of the cornea
- Do not touch dropper tip to any surface
Use in Special Populations
- Evaluated in pediatric patients for the treatment of inflammation following cataract surgery
- No overall differences observed between elderly and younger patients
Overdose Effects
- Overdosage will not ordinarily cause acute problems
- If accidentally ingested, drink fluids to dilute

Storage Conditions
- Store at room temperature
- Protect from light and freezing
- Contents should not be used more than 1 month after first opening of the bottle
