Description

Dosage
- Usual recommended starting dose of 20 mg once daily; may be increased to 40 mg for further blood pressure reduction after 2 weeks

- Treatment of hypertension, alone or in combination with other antihypertensive agents
Pharmacology
- Blocks the vasoconstrictor effects of angiotensin II by selectively blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT 1 receptor in vascular smooth muscle
Interaction
- No significant drug interactions reported in studies; bioavailability not significantly altered by antacids; caution with NSAIDs and selective COX-2 inhibitors due to possible renal function deterioration
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to any component of the product
Side Effects
- Adverse reactions similar to placebo; incidence of dizziness higher than placebo; other adverse reactions include back pain, diarrhea, headache, hyperglycemia, and more
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Discontinue use in pregnancy as it can cause harm to the developing fetus; potential adverse effects on nursing infants; decision should be made whether to discontinue nursing or discontinue the drug, considering the importance of the drug to the mother
Precautions & Warnings
- Changes in renal function may be anticipated in susceptible individuals treated with Presnor; caution in patients with severe congestive heart failure
Overdose Effects
- No experience of overdose with Presnor; likely effects include hypotension and tachycardia, with possible bradycardia if parasympathetic stimulation occurs
