Indications
- Relieves dry cough
- Pre & post-operative cough sedation
- Acute cough of any etiology

- Cough due to acute lower respiratory tract infections
Pharmacology
- Acts directly on the brain's cough center
- Suppresses cough
- Safe and non-sedating
- Rapid and complete absorption after oral administration
- Extremely protein-bound
- Plasma elimination half-life is about 13 hours
- Active metabolites also have antitussive action
Dosage & Administration
- 50 mg tablet: 2-3 tablets daily for adults
- Syrup: 15 ml 4 times daily for adults
- 50 mg tablet: 1-2 tablets daily for adolescents over 12 years old
- Syrup: 5 ml 3 times daily for children (3-6 yrs)
- Syrup: 10 ml 3 times daily for children (6-12 yrs)
- Syrup: 15 ml 3 times daily for adolescents
- Pediatric drops: 0.50 ml 4 times daily for children (2 months- 1 yr)
- Pediatric drops: 0.75 ml 4 times daily for children (1-3 yrs)
Interaction
Should be avoided with expectorants

- Adverse reactions such as rash, nausea, diarrhea, and vertigo in rare cases
Pregnancy & Lactation
Not recommended during the first trimester of pregnancy, caution during the remainder of pregnancy and breastfeeding
Precautions & Warnings
- Supresses cough reflex
- Avoid concomitant use with expectorants
- Consult doctor if cough persists for more than 7 days (3 days in children <12 years)
Overdose Effects
Drowsiness, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, loss of balance, hypotension
