Composition
- Calcium Lactate Gluconate 1000 mg
- Calcium Carbonate (from Coral source) USP 327 mg
- Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) BP 500 mg
- Vitamin D3 400 IU as Colecalciferol BP
Pharmacology
- Calcium Gluconate for normal nerve, muscle, and cardiac function
- Calcium Carbonate from Coral for better absorption
- Vitamin D3 aids in the absorption of Calcium
- Vitamin C as a powerful reducing agent
- Vitamin D stimulates bone formation
Dosage administration
Adolescents & Adults: 1 effervescent tablet per day. Children: ½ effervescent tablet per day. Infants: As prescribed by the physician. Dissolve one tablet in a glass of water.
Interaction
- Risk of hypercalcemia with thiazide diuretics
- Reduced absorption of calcium with certain foods
- Decreased effect of vitamin-D with phenytoin or barbiturates
- Reduced absorption of various medications when taken with calcium salts
Contraindications
- Hypercalcaemia from various conditions
- Primary hyperparathyroidism
- Severe renal failure
- Hypersensitivity to any tablet ingredient
Side effects
- Mild gastrointestinal disturbances
- Skin rash from Vitamin-D supplements
- Hypercalciuria
- Occasional hypercalcaemia in long-term treatment with high-dose Vitamin-D
Pregnancy lactation
- Increased requirements for calcium and vitamin-D during pregnancy and lactation
- Overdoses of vitamin-D have teratogenic effects in pregnant animals
- Passage of vitamin-D and its metabolites into breast milk
Precautions warnings
- Supervision for patients with renal failure or hypercalciuria
- Periodic checks of plasma Calcium levels and urinary Calcium excretion
- Measurement of urinary Calcium excretion in patients with a history of renal stones
- Monitoring of serum and urinary Calcium levels and kidney function with long-term treatment
Overdose effects
Hypercalcaemia due to Vitamin-D toxicity, leading to nausea, vomiting, polyuria, and constipation. Chronic overdoses can lead to vascular and organ calcification.
