Composition
- Each tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source)
- Each tablet contains equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU.
- Each DX tablet contains Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source)
- Each DX tablet contains equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU.
- Each effervescent tablet contains Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg
- Each effervescent tablet contains equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP.
Pharmacology

- Clinical evidence suggests usefulness for prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis and associated fractures
- Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption from GI tract
- Vitamin D stimulates bone formation
- Synergistic effects of Calcium and vitamin D on bone growth and in Osteoporosis prevention
- Coral Calcium sourced from coral origin with similar composition to human bone
- Vitamin D3 aids in absorption of Calcium from GI tract and helps maintain Calcium balance in the body.
Dosage & Administration
- One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by the physician
- Taking on a full stomach ensures better absorption
- Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water to drink orally
- Stir the solution with spoon before drinking

Interaction
- Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
- Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
- Ion exchange resins and laxatives may reduce gastrointestinal absorption of vitamin D
- Calcium carbonate may interfere with absorption of tetracycline preparations
- Hypercalcaemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides
- Concurrent use with bisphosphonate or sodium fluoride may reduce gastrointestinal absorption
- Oxalic acid and phytic acid may inhibit calcium absorption through formation of insoluble calcium salts
Contraindications
- Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
- Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
- Hypersensitivity to the components
- Severe renal insufficiencies
- Concomitant digoxin therapy
Side Effects
- May be irritating to the GI tract
- May cause constipation
- Rarely produces hypercalcemia
- May lead to allergic reactions, irregular heartbeats, nausea, vomiting, decreased appetite, dry mouth, drowsiness
- Skin rash reported following vitamin D supplementation
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
- Reproductive toxicity shown in animals with high dose of vitamin D
- Overdoses should be avoided as permanent hypercalcaemia has adverse effects on the foetus
- No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
- Calcium and vitamin D3 can be used during pregnancy and lactation
Precautions & Warnings
- Serum calcium levels should be followed during long-term treatment
- Renal function should be monitored through measurement of serum creatinine
- Monitoring is especially important in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
- Caution should be exercised in patients with high tendency to calculus formation
- Vitamin D should be used with caution in patients with impairment of renal function
- Soft tissue calcification risk should be taken into account
- Vitamin D not metabolized normally in severe renal insufficiency
Overdose Effects
- Can lead to hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
- Symptoms may include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain, nephrocalcinosis, nephrolithiasis, cardiac arrhythmias
- Persistently high calcium levels may lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
- Treatment options include discontinuation of calcium treatment, rehydration, and isolated or combined treatment with diuretics, bisphosphonates, calcitonin, and corticosteroids.
