Description
- Triptimate is a medication used for the treatment of Erectile Dysfunction (ED) and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH). It is a selective phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5) inhibitor that increases cGMP in smooth muscle cells, leading to smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow.
Indications
- Erectile Dysfunction (ED)
- Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)
- Both Erectile Dysfunction and signs and symptoms of Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia
Pharmacology
- Selectively inhibits phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE5)
- Increases cGMP in smooth muscle cells
- Causes smooth muscle relaxation and increased blood flow into the corpus cavernosum
- Relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder
- Improves blood flow to the urinary tract
- Widens the opening of the bladder neck
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended starting dose for Erectile Dysfunction is 10 mg
- Maximum dosing frequency is once daily
- Effective for up to 36 hours
- Recommended dose for Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is 5 mg daily
- Recommended dose for combined Erectile Dysfunction and Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia is 5 mg daily
Interaction
- May interact with Nitrates, Alpha adrenergic blockers, Antihypertensives, Alcohol, Antacids, Ketoconazole, Ritonavir, Erythromycin, Itraconazole, Grapefruit juice, Rifampin, Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital
Contraindications
- Use of Nitrates may increase hypotensive effects
- Hypersensitivity reactions to Tadalafil
