Indications
- Prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis
Pharmacology
- Sterile topical ophthalmic solution containing Alcaftadine
- Histamine receptor antagonist
- Inhibitor of the release of histamine from mast cell
- Potent histamine H2 and H4 receptor antagonist with demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties
Dosage & Administration
- Adults and children 2 years and over: Instill one drop in each eye once daily
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any component in the product
Side Effects
- Ocular reactions: eye irritation, burning or/and stinging upon instillation, eye redness, eye pruritus, nasopharyngitis, headache
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category B
- Caution advised during pregnancy and nursing period
Precautions & Warnings
- Care to be taken not to touch the eyelids or surrounding areas with the dropper tip
- Not to wear contact lens if the eye is red
- Not to use for contact lens related irritation
- Remove contact lenses prior to instillation
- Allow 10 minutes before reinserting contact lenses
- Administer topical ophthalmic medicinal products at least 5 minutes apart if multiple products are used
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years
- No overall differences in safety or effectiveness observed between elderly and younger subjects
