Indications
- Duodenal ulcer
- Gastric ulcer
- Chronic gastritis
- Prophylaxis of gastrointestinal hemorrhage
Pharmacology
Non-systemic drug, minimally absorbed from the gastrointestinal tract, promotes healing of ulcers, inhibits pepsin and bile
Dosage
- Usual dose for adults: 2 gm twice daily or 1 gm four times a day
- Pediatric population: Safety and efficacy not established
- Elderly: No special dosage requirements
Administration
Take on empty stomach, avoid antacids within 30 minutes
Interaction
- Reduces bioavailability of certain drugs
- Should not be co-administered with citrate preparations

Hypersensitivity to sucralfate

- Monitor aluminium, phosphate, calcium, and alkaline phosphatase levels in patients with renal impairment
Use in Special Populations
- Not recommended for use in children under 14 years of age
- No dose adjustments needed for elderly patients
- Use with caution in renal insufficiency patients
- May cause dizziness or drowsiness
Overdose Effects
Most cases remain asymptomatic, few cases report abdominal pain, nausea, and vomiting
