Indications

- Relief of symptoms associated with chronic idiopathic urticaria

Pharmacology
- Fexofenadine is an inverse agonist of the H1 receptor
- Has potent and selective affinity for H1 receptors
- Does not carry antidopaminergic, antiserotonergic, or anticholinergic activity
Dosage and administration
- Adults and children 12 years and older: 60 mg twice daily or 120 mg once daily or 180 mg once daily
- Children from 2 to 11 years: Dosage varies based on age and renal function
Interaction
- Coadministration with erythromycin or ketoconazole results in increased fexofenadine levels in plasma
- No interaction between fexofenadine and omeprazole observed
- Administration with antacids causes reduction in bioavailability
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Fexofenadine Hydrochloride
Side effects
- Common undesirable effects include headache, drowsiness, and nausea
- Other reported side effects include hypersensitivity reactions, insomnia, tachycardia, and diarrhea
