Composition

  • Each tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1250 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 500 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 200 IU
  • Each DX tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate USP 1500 mg (Coral source) equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium & Vitamin D USP 400 IU
  • Each effervescent tablet contains: Calcium Carbonate (Coral source) USP 1500 mg equivalent to 600 mg of elemental Calcium and Vitamin D3 400 IU as Cholecalciferol USP

Mode of Action

  • Vital for the prevention and treatment of Osteoporosis and associated fractures
  • Vitamin D aids in Calcium absorption and bone formation
  • Clinical studies show synergistic effects on bone growth and Osteoporosis prevention
  • Coral Calcium has a chemical structure similar to human bone
  • Vitamin D3 aids in absorption of Calcium and maintains Calcium balance in the body

Dosage & Administration

  • One tablet once or twice daily with plenty of water or as directed by physician
  • Dissolve 1 effervescent tablet in a glass of water and drink orally

Interaction

  • Thiazide diuretics reduce urinary excretion of calcium
  • Systemic corticosteroids reduce calcium absorption
  • Simultaneous treatment with ion exchange resins or laxatives may reduce vitamin D absorption
  • Calcium carbonate may interfere with the absorption of tetracycline preparations
  • Hypercalcaemia may increase toxicity of cardiac glycosides during treatment with calcium and vitamin D
  • Avoid taking calcium products within two hours of eating foods high in oxalic acid and phytic acid

Contraindications

  • Hypercalcemia and hyperparathyroidism
  • Hypercalciuria and nephrolithiasis
  • Hypersensitivity to the component of this preparation
  • Severe renal insufficiencies
  • Concomitant digoxin therapy

Pregnancy & Lactation

  • Daily intake should not exceed 1500 mg calcium and 600 IU cholecalciferol
  • Avoid overdoses as it may lead to permanent hypercalcaemia
  • No indications that vitamin D at therapeutic doses is teratogenic in humans
  • Calcium and vitamin D3 pass into breast milk

Precautions & Warnings

  • Monitor serum calcium levels and renal function during long-term treatment
  • Monitoring is especially important in elderly patients on concomitant treatment with cardiac glycosides or diuretics
  • Use vitamin D with caution in patients with impairment of renal function
  • Consider risk of soft tissue calcification
  • Use caution in immobilised patients with osteoporosis
  • Consider dose adjustments when prescribing other drugs containing vitamin D
  • Additional doses should be taken under close medical supervision

Overdose Effects

  • Hypervitaminosis D and hypercalcaemia
  • Symptoms include anorexia, thirst, nausea, vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain, muscle weakness, fatigue, mental disturbances, polydipsia, polyuria, bone pain
  • May lead to irreversible renal damage and soft tissue calcification
  • Treatment may include discontinuing calcium and vitamin D, rehydration, and monitoring
