Indications

Pharmacology

• Glucosamine as a natural amino-sugar
• Fundamental building block for biosynthesis of glycosaminoglycans (GAGs)
• GAGs binds with protein and form proteoglycans, the essential building block of articular cartilage
• Chondroitin Sulfate as a glycosaminoglycan found in connective tissue
• Chondroitin protects healthy cartilage from premature decline
• Combination of Glucosamine with Chondroitin Sulfate shows synergistic effect

Dosage & Administration

• 250/200 mg tablet: 1 to 2 tablets, three times daily
• Adjustable dosage according to response and body weight
• Typical dosage recommendation based on body weight
• 750/600 mg tablet: 1 tablet two times daily or as directed by the physician

Interaction

• No significant drug interactions reported with specific medications
• Chondroitin may enhance the blood thinning effects of anticoagulants like Warfarin, Heparin

Contraindications

• No known contraindications for Glucosamine and Chondroitin
• Proven hypersensitivity to Glucosamine and Chondroitin is a contraindication

Side Effects

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Women who are pregnant or could become pregnant should not supplement with Glucosamine Sulfate or Chondroitin Sulfate
• No sufficient studies during pregnancy or lactation

Precautions & Warnings

• Patients with Diabetes Mellitus are advised to monitor blood glucose levels regularly when taking Glucosamine
• No special studies were formed in patients with renal or hepatic insufficiency
• Administration to patients with severe hepatic or renal insufficiency should be under appropriate medical supervision
• Children should not be supplemented with Glucosamine and Chondroitin
