Description
- Umet 200 mg/5 ml Suspension is an antibiotic medication used for the treatment and prevention of viral, parasitic, and bacterial infections. It is also indicated for post-operative infections, septicaemia, trichomoniasis, bacterial vaginosis, amoebiasis, giardiasis, gingivitis, and anaerobic infections.

Pharmacology
- Metronidazole belongs to the imidazole class of antibacterial drugs and is classified as an antiprotozoal agent. It acts by interacting with DNA to achieve bactericidal action against anaerobic bacteria.
Interaction
- Disulfiram - may cause psychotic reactions
- Alcohol - should not be consumed during therapy
- Warfarin - may potentiate anticoagulant effect
- Lithium - may increase plasma levels
- Cyclosporin - requires close monitoring when co-administered
- Phenytoin or phenobarbital - may increase elimination of Umet
- 5-Fluorouracil - may lead to reduced clearance and increased toxicity
