Leobutol 2 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Treatment of bronchospasm in adults
• Treatment of bronchospasm in adolescents
• Treatment of bronchospasm in children 6 years and older

Pharmacology

• Levosalbutamol as a single isomer beta 2-agonist
• Primary mechanism of action is unimpeded by (S)-salbutamol
• Clinically comparable bronchodilation with lessened side effects

Dosage & Administration

• Tablet dosage for adults and adolescents above 12 years
• Tablet dosage for children 6-11 years
• Syrup dosage for adults
• Syrup dosage for children 6-11 years

Interaction

• Caution when using with other short-acting sympathomimetic bronchodilators
• Caution when using with epinephrine
• Caution when using with adrenergic drugs by any route

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to levosalbutamol or its components

Side Effects

• Hypocalcaemia
• Palpitation
• Muscle tremors
• Muscle cramps
• Nausea
• Vomiting
• Burning substernal or epigastric pain
• Diarrhea

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Use during pregnancy if potential benefit justifies potential risk
• Unknown excretion in human milk
• Caution when administered to nursing women

Precautions & Warnings

• Particular caution in acute severe asthma
• Potentiated effect by concomitant treatment with xanthine derivatives, steroids, and diuretics
• Monitoring of serum potassium levels

Overdose Effects

• Symptoms of excessive beta-adrenergic stimulation
• Stomach should be emptied in case of serious poisoning
• Caution when administering beta-blocker in patients with a history of bronchospasm
