Indications
- Treatment of respiratory tract disorders
- Productive cough
- Tracheobronchitis
- Bronchitis with emphysema
- Bronchiectasis
- Bronchitis with bronchospasm
- Chronic inflammatory pulmonary conditions
- Pneumoconiosis
Pharmacology
- Oral mucolytic agent
- Disrupts acid mucopolysaccharide fibres in mucoid sputum
- Produces less viscous mucus
- Rapid & complete absorption from gastrointestinal tract
- Widely distributed into body tissues
Dosage & Administration
- Recommended doses for adults and children
- 10 ml (2 teaspoons) 3 times daily for adults and children over 12 years
- 5 ml (1 teaspoon) 3 times daily for children 6-12 years
- 2.5 ml (1/2 teaspoon) 3 times daily for children 2-6 years
- Not recommended for children under 2 years without advice
Interaction
- No known significant interactions with other drugs
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in known hypersensitivity to Bromhexine Hydrochloride or any ingredients
Side Effects
- Occasional gastrointestinal side effects
- Transient rise in serum aminotransferase values
- Headache
- Vertigo (dizziness)
- Allergic reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Special care recommended during pregnancy
- Assessment of benefits against possible effects on children
- Not recommended during lactation due to expected entry into breast milk
Precautions & Warnings
- Use with care in patients with history of peptic ulcer disease
- Care advisable in asthmatic patients
- Clearance may be reduced in patients with severe hepatic or renal impairment
