Indications

• Treatment of infections
• Ear, nose and throat infections
• Lower respiratory tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Genito-urinary tract infections
• Venereal disease treatment
• Dental abscess therapy

Pharmacology

• Broad spectrum penicillin
• Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
• Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
• Stable in gastric acid
• Rapid oral absorption

Dosage

• Adult dosage: 250mg three times daily
• Severe adult infections: 500mg three times daily
• Children's dosage: 125mg three times daily
• Severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection dosage
• Otitis media dosage
• Pneumonia dosage
• Dental abscess dosage
• Urinary tract infections dosage
• Gonorrhea dosage

Administration

• Reconstituted suspension can be mixed with milk, juice, or water

Interaction

• Concurrent use with Probenecid may increase blood levels
• May affect gut flora and estrogen reabsorption

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

• Mild and transient side effects
• Diarrhea, indigestion, occasional rash
• Rare cases of pseudo-membranous colitis

Pregnancy & Lactation

• FDA pregnancy category B
• Limited studies in pregnant women
• Excreted in human milk
