Umox 125 mg/5 ml (Powder for Suspension)

Indications

• Ear, nose and throat infections
• Lower respiratory tract infections
• Skin and soft tissue infections
• Genito-urinary tract infections
• Venereal disease treatment
• Dental abscess therapy
• H. pylori infection treatment
• Duodenal ulcer disease treatment

Pharmacology

• Broad spectrum penicillin
• Effective against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria
• Inhibition of cell wall biosynthesis
• Stable in gastric acid
• Rapid absorption after oral administration
• Widely distributed in body tissues and fluids

Dosage

• 250 mg three times daily for adults
• 500 mg three times daily for severe infections in adults
• 125 mg three times daily for children
• 250 mg three times daily for severe infections in children
• Specific dosage for severe or recurrent purulent respiratory infection, otitis media, pneumonia, dental abscess, urinary tract infections, and gonorrhoea
• Adjustment in renal impairment

Administration

• Reconstituted suspension can be administered with milk, fruit juice, or water

Interaction

• Concurrent use of Umox and Probenecid may increase and prolong Umox blood levels
• Umox may affect gut flora, leading to lower estrogen reabsorption and reduced efficacy of combined oral contraceptives

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in penicillin hypersensitive patients

Side Effects

• Mild and transient side effects
• Possible occurrences of diarrhea, indigestion, rash
• Rare reports of pseudo-membranous colitis
