Usapa 25 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Hypertension
• Renal Protection in Type-2 Diabetic Patients with Proteinuria

Pharmacology

• First non-peptide orally active angiotensin II receptor blocker
• Binds to the AT1 receptor found in many tissues

Dosage & Administration

• Usual starting and maintenance dose is 50 mg once daily
• Total daily dose ranges from 25 mg to 100 mg

Interaction

• Rifampicin and fluconazole reduce levels of active metabolite of Usapa
• Concomitant use of potassium-sparing diuretics may lead to increases in serum potassium

Contraindications

• Contraindicated in pregnant women
• Hypersensitivity to any component of this product
• Not to be administered with Aliskiren in patients with diabetes

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Pregnancy Category D
• Risk to the fetus increases if administered during the second or third trimesters of pregnancy
• Not known whether excreted in human milk

Precautions & Warnings

• Reduces fetal renal function and increases fetal and neonatal morbidity and death if used in second and third trimesters of pregnancy
• Symptomatic hypotension may occur in intravascularly volume-depleted patients

Use in Special Populations

• No initial dosage adjustment is necessary in patients with mild renal impairment
• Lower starting dose recommended for patients with moderate to severe renal impairment
