Indications
- Prevention of itching associated with allergic conjunctivitis
Pharmacology
- Contains Alcaftadine, a histamine receptor antagonist
- Inhibits release of histamine from mast cells
- Demonstrates anti-inflammatory properties
Dosage & Administration
- Instill one drop in each eye once daily for adults and children 2 years and over
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to any component in the product
Side Effects
- Eye irritation
- Burning or stinging upon instillation
- Eye redness
- Eye pruritus
- Nasopharyngitis
- Headache
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy category B
- Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed
- Caution advised while administered to a nursing woman
Precautions & Warnings
- Care should be taken not to touch the eyelids or surrounding areas with the dropper tip of the bottle
- Patients advised not to wear a contact lens if their eye is red
- Not to be used to treat contact lens related irritation
- Contact lenses to be removed prior to instillation
- Wait 10 minutes before reinserting lenses
- Administer each medicinal product at least 5 minutes apart if using more than one
Use in Special Populations
- Safety and effectiveness in pediatric patients below the age of 2 years have not been established
- No overall differences in safety or effectiveness observed between elderly and younger subjects
