Anuva 50 mg (Tablet)

Indications

• Short-term treatment for post-traumatic pain
• Treatment for post-operative pain
• Treatment for painful and/or inflammatory conditions in gynaecology
• Relief from migraine attacks
• Alleviation of painful syndromes of the vertebral column
• Treatment for non-articular rheumatism
• Adjuvant in severe painful inflammatory infections of the ear, nose, or throat

Pharmacology

• Inhibition of cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2)
• Potent inhibitor of prostaglandin synthesis in vitro
• Sensitization of afferent nerves
• Mediation of inflammation through prostaglandins

Dosage & Administration

• Initial loading dose of 50 mg for adults
• 25-50 mg every eight hours for adults
• Initial loading dose of 50 mg for migraine, with additional dose after 2 hours if necessary
• Maximum daily dose of 150 mg for migraine
• Daily dosage of up to 75 mg for children over 14 years

Interaction

• Increased plasma concentrations of Lithium and Digoxin
• Increased risk of haemorrhage with anticoagulant therapy
• Cases of nephrotoxicity with concomitant use of Cyclosporin
• Risk of serious toxicity when used with Methotrexate
• Inhibition of diuretic activity
• Increased frequency of unwanted effects when co-administered with other NSAIDs and steroids

Contraindications

• Known hypersensitivity to Diclofenac
• Asthma, urticaria, or allergic type reactions after taking aspirin or other NSAIDs
• Severe, rarely fatal, anaphylactic-like reactions to NSAIDs
• Treatment of perioperative pain in the setting of coronary artery bypass graft (CABG) surgery

Side Effects

• Occasional: epigastric pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea
• Rare: gastro-intestinal bleeding, peptic ulcer, bloody diarrhoea

Pregnancy & Lactation

• Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the last trimester
• Lowest effective dosage should be used during pregnancy
• Very small quantities detected in breast milk with no undesirable effects on the infant
