Description
- Phenyltriazine antiepileptic medication
- Used to treat certain types of epilepsy and bipolar disorder
- Controls epileptic seizures by inhibiting voltage-sensitive sodium channels
- Stabilizes neuronal membranes
- Inhibits presynaptic excitatory neurotransmitter release
Pharmacology
- Inhibits voltage-sensitive sodium channels
- Modulates release of excitatory neurotransmitters
- Binds to inactive sodium channels
- Suppresses release of glutamate
- Displays binding properties to various receptors
Dosage & Administration
- Escalation regimen for patients older than 12 years with epilepsy
- Escalation regimen for patients aged 2 to 12 years with epilepsy
- Escalation regimen for adults with bipolar disorder

Interaction
- Increase in concentrations with Valproate
- Decrease in concentrations with Carbamazepine, Phenytoin, Phenobarbital, Primidone, Rifampin, estrogen-containing oral contraceptives, lopinavir/ritonavir, atazanavir/ritonavir
