Description

- Take this combination twice daily with meals

ModeOfAction
- Empagliflozin inhibits SGLT2, leading to increased urinary glucose excretion
- Metformin Hydrochloride lowers both basal and postprandial plasma glucose, decreases hepatic glucose production, and improves insulin sensitivity
Interaction
- Co-administration with diuretics may enhance potential for volume depletion
- Increases risk for hypoglycemia when co-administered with insulin or insulin secretagogues
- Monitoring glycemic control with urine glucose tests not recommended
- Drugs that reduce Metformin clearance may increase its accumulation
- Co-administration with alcohol can potentiate the effect of Metformin on lactate metabolism
