Indications

  • Treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Adjunct to diet and exercise
  • Combination therapy with Metformin
  • Combination therapy with Empagliflozin

Pharmacology

  • Empagliflozin inhibits SGLT2
  • Metformin is a biguanide oral antihyperglycemic drug
  • Reduces renal reabsorption of glucose
  • Lowers renal threshold for glucose

Dosage & Administration

  • Recommended daily dose of Metformin Hydrochloride is 2000 mg
  • Recommended daily dose of Empagliflozin is 25 mg
  • Take the combination twice daily with meals
  • Individualized starting dose based on current regimen

Interactions

  • Diuretics may enhance volume depletion
  • Co-administration with insulin increases hypoglycemia risk
  • Monitoring glycemic control with urine glucose tests not recommended
