Indications

  • Treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
  • Adjunct to diet and exercise
  • Combination therapy for patients insufficiently controlled with Metformin
  • Use in patients already being treated with the combination of Empagliflozin and Metformin separately

Pharmacology

  • Empagliflozin is an inhibitor of SGLT2
  • Metformin Hydrochloride is a biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug
  • Reduces renal reabsorption of filtered glucose
  • Lowers renal threshold for glucose
  • Decreases hepatic glucose production
  • Decreases intestinal absorption of glucose
  • Improves insulin sensitivity

Dosage & Administration

  • Dosage should be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerability
  • Take twice daily with meals
  • Maximum recommended daily dose of Metformin Hydrochloride is 2000 mg and Empagliflozin is 25 mg
  • Recommended individualized starting dose based on patient's current regimen

  • Acute alcohol intoxication
  • Alcoholism
