Indications
- Treatment of adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus
- Adjunct to diet and exercise
- Combination therapy for patients insufficiently controlled with Metformin
- Use in patients already being treated with the combination of Empagliflozin and Metformin separately
Pharmacology
- Empagliflozin is an inhibitor of SGLT2
- Metformin Hydrochloride is a biguanide type oral antihyperglycemic drug
- Reduces renal reabsorption of filtered glucose
- Lowers renal threshold for glucose
- Decreases hepatic glucose production
- Decreases intestinal absorption of glucose
- Improves insulin sensitivity
Dosage & Administration
- Dosage should be individualized based on effectiveness and tolerability
- Take twice daily with meals
- Maximum recommended daily dose of Metformin Hydrochloride is 2000 mg and Empagliflozin is 25 mg
- Recommended individualized starting dose based on patient's current regimen
