Indications
- Adjunct to diet and exercise for Type II diabetes mellitus

Pharmacology
- Sulfonylurea antidiabetic agent
- Stimulates insulin release from pancreatic beta cells
- Improves beta cell sensitivity to glucose stimulus
- Reduces basal hepatic glucose production
Dosage

Administration

Interaction
- Potentiating drugs include ACE inhibitors, fluconazole, MAO-inhibitors
- Attenuating drugs include calcium channel blockers, corticosteroids, sympathomimetic agents
Contraindications
- Not suitable for insulin dependent (type I) diabetes mellitus
- Not suitable for diabetic ketoacidosis or coma
- Not for patients hypersensitive to sulfonylureas or sulfonamides
- Contraindicated in severe hepatic dysfunction and impairment of renal function

- Not to be taken during pregnancy
