Indications

- Pyodermas

Pharmacology
- Bacitracin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis
- Neomycin inhibits protein synthesis and disrupts DNA synthesis
- Active against gram-positive and some gram-negative bacteria
Dosage & Administration
- Ointment to be applied 2-3 times daily
- Dusting Powder to be applied up to 4 times daily
- Clean affected area before application
Interaction
- Bacitracin Zinc may enhance neuromuscular-blocking agent action
- Neomycin Sulphate may impair absorption of other drugs
- Increased risk of nephrotoxicity when used with other nephrotoxic drugs
Contraindications
- Hypersensitivity to any of its components
Side Effects
- Usually well tolerated
- Rare allergic reactions may occur
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Safe use during pregnancy & lactation not established
Precautions & Warnings
- Not to be used on large open wounds or severely injured skin
- Not for the treatment of otitis external when the eardrum is perforated
- Consult a physician for deep wounds, animal bites, or serious burns
Use in Special Populations
- Suitable for use in children at the same dose as adults
- Dose should be reduced in infants
- Not recommended for use in neonates
