Indications
- Treatment of gout
- Treatment of hyperuricemia
Pharmacology
- URAT1-selective urate reabsorption inhibitor
- Increases urinary urate excretion
- Lowers serum urate levels
- Inhibits URAT1
- Weak inhibitory effects on ABCG2, OAT1, OAT3
Dosage & Administration
- Usual adult dosage: 0.5 mg once daily
- Maintenance dose: 2 mg once daily
- Maximum dose: 4 mg once daily
- Precautions for rapid decrease in blood uric acid levels
- Instructions for missing dose and overdose
Interaction
- Interaction with Pyrazinamide
- Interaction with Salicylic acid preparations like Aspirin
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to the drug component
Side Effects
- Commonly reported side effects: gouty arthritis, limb discomfort
- Less common side effects: loose stools, increased y-GTP, arthralgia, kidney stones, nephrocalcinosis, increased urinary y2 macroglobulin, increased blood creatinine, increased urine albumin/creatinine ratio, positive urine albumin
