Indications
- Nosocomial pneumonia

Pharmacology
- Synthetic antibacterial agent
- Oxazolidinones class of antibiotics
- In vitro activity against Gram positive aerobic bacteria
- Bacteriostatic against enterococci and staphylococci
- Bactericidal for the majority of streptococci strains
Dosage & Administration
- Infection:
- Nosocomial pneumonia
- Community-acquired pneumonia
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections
- Dosage, route and frequency of administration:
- Pediatric patients* (birth through 11 years of age)
- Adults and adolescent (12 years and older)
- Recommended duration of treatment (consecutive days):
- Nosocomial pneumonia: 10 to 14
- Complicated skin and skin structure infections: 14 to 28
- Uncomplicated skin and skin structure infections: 10 to 14
- Intravenous administration: 30 to 120 minutes
- Hepatic impairment: No dose adjustment for mild-to-moderate impairment
- Use in children and adolescents: Dosage described in specific section
Interaction
- Drug interaction with medication:
- Reversible, nonselective inhibitor of monoamine oxidase
- Potential for interaction with adrenergic and serotonergic agents
- Enhancement of pressor response to sympathomimetic agents
- Avoid administering with specific medications
- Drug interaction with food and others: Advice to avoid certain foods and beverages
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Linezolid or product components
- Concomitant use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors
- Uncontrolled hypertension, pheochromocytoma, thyrotoxicosis
- Patients taking sympathomimetic agents, vasopressive agents, dopaminergic agents, certain antidepressants

Pregnancy & Lactation
- Pregnancy: Use if benefits outweigh risks
- Lactation: Consider benefits of breastfeeding along with potential adverse effects on the child
Precautions & Warnings
- Monitor complete blood counts weekly
- Prompt ophthalmic evaluation if visual impairment symptoms occur
- Not approved for catheter-related infections
- Monitor for potential increases in blood pressure
- Evaluation if recurrent nausea, vomiting, or acidosis occurs
- Adjustment of insulin or hypoglycemic agents dosage if hypoglycemia occurs
