Indications

Dosage & Administration
- Taken with food
- Prescribed by or under supervision of experienced physicians
- Started at a dose of 0.5 mg/kg daily
- Dose adjustment during therapy
- Treatment course of 16-24 weeks
- Complete clearing of acne with single treatment course
- Lower dose for severe renal insufficiency
- Higher risk of relapse with lower dose in intolerant patients
Interaction
- Additive adverse effects with vit A or its derivatives
- Decreased efficacy with microdosed progesterone
- Increased risk of local irritation with topical keratolytic or exfoliative anti-acne agents
- Reduced efficacy with oxidising agents like benzoyl peroxide
Contraindications
- Contraindicated in pregnant or breastfeeding women
- Contraindicated in women of childbearing potential without meeting pregnancy prevention conditions
- Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Isotretinoin or excipients
- Contraindicated in patients with hepatic insufficiency
- Contraindicated in patients with excessively elevated blood lipid values
- Contraindicated in patients receiving concomitant treatment with tetracyclines
