Indications
- Treatment of allergic conjunctivitis
- Relief of symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis
- Relief of symptoms of allergic rhinitis and allergic skin conditions
Pharmacology
- Olopatadine is an antihistamine
- Works by blocking the action of histamine
- Reduces allergy symptoms
- Acts as a mast cell stabilizer
- Antagonist at histamine H1 receptors
- Inhibits release of inflammatory mediators and cytokines
- Moderate protein binding in human serum
- Plasma elimination half-life of 8 to 12 hours
- Mainly eliminated through urinary excretion
Dosage
- 0.1% Eye Drops: One drop in each affected eye two times per day
- 0.2% Eye Drops: One drop in the affected eye once a day
- 0.7% Eye Drops: One drop in each affected eye once a day
- Nasal Spray: Two sprays per nostril twice daily for adults and adolescents
- Nasal Spray: One spray per nostril twice daily for children 6 to 11 years of age
- Tablet: 5 mg dosage; adults take one tablet twice daily, children over 7 years take one tablet twice daily
