Description
- Oral iron, folic acid, and zinc preparation for the treatment of iron, folic acid, and zinc deficiency
Pharmacology

Dosage & Administration
- One tablet a day for adults & elderly
- Food independent absorption
- Two tablets a day in severe cases
- Safety and effectiveness not established in pediatric patients
Interaction
- Iron chelates with tetracycline
- Interference with absorption of oral tetracycline antibiotics
- Minimize gastrointestinal discomfort by taking with meals
- Impaired absorption of iron with concurrent penicillamine and antacid administrations
- Risk of zinc accumulation in renal failure patients
Contraindications
- Patients with haemolytic anaemia
- Patients with increased hypersensitivity to any components
- Patients with increased body iron content

- Allergic sensitization reported following oral and parenteral administration of folic acid
Pregnancy & Lactation
- Contact physician if pregnant, planning to become pregnant, or currently breastfeeding
- Avoid administration in first trimester unless definite evidence of iron deficiency
- Prophylaxis of iron deficiency justified when zinc supplementation is required during the remainder of pregnancy
Precautions & Warnings
- Care in patients who may develop iron overload
- Failure to respond to treatment may indicate other causes of anemia and should be further investigated
Overdose Effects
- Variable clinical course of acute iron overdosage
- Symptoms including abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, tarry stools, hypotension, tachycardia, metabolic acidosis, seizures, shock, coma
